ICML is one of the most prestigious research venues in machine learning. The 2026 edition takes place at the COEX Convention & Exhibition Center in Seoul.
It is worth tracking for new model architectures, training and post-training methods, deep learning theory, safety, unlearning and ideas that may soon move into practical AI systems.
Who it is for
ICML is primarily a research conference. Researchers, ML engineers and readers comfortable with experimental methodology will gain the most. Product teams can use it to identify directions, but an accepted paper should not be assumed to be deployment-ready.
How to read the results
Check whether authors used strong baselines, reported compute cost and made code available. A small benchmark improvement may have little practical value when it requires substantially more infrastructure or works only on a narrow test.
What to follow afterward
The most promising work normally receives independent implementations and additional testing. Waiting for reproductions and results on other datasets provides a better basis for deciding whether a method is relevant to a product.
